Personal Insurance:

Are MVR points and insurance company points the same thing?

No. It is not the point system that companies use in determining insurance rates, it is the violation itself. In Maryland a point stays on a record for 7 years, however, the violation itself stays on the record for 3 years. Insurance companies evaluate violations according to their own guidelines.

Business Insurance:

If I only have one part-time employee, do I need workers' compensation insurance?

Yes, if you have employees, part-time or full-time, you are required by law to provide workers' compensation insurance.

Does general liability insurance cover my employees if they are injured on the job?

No, general liability covers bodily injury and property damage to a third party. Workers' compensation insurance covers injuries to your employees while on the job.
